Working Together

Many user experience professionals will describe the tension between the principal special interest groups within a web dev team and the balance between them. Creating the ‘sweet spot’ where each group’s needs and compromises gel to create harmony is typically the desired result.
The diagram below is the a common stated goal and can be reached if all of the ‘planets’ are in alignment.

Seeing as how it is rare if any of these requirements are in perfect balance at the end of the day, I prefer to tackle a heavily User-needs gravitational pull. And here’s why-
No matter how cool or poignant or needed your site/app is, if it’s not usable, no one will care. The business needs will not be met if users leave your site. The technical requirements/limitations will not be understood if a user never gets to where they are going.

The details, spec, team, milestones and budget are crucial parts of any project but I like to consider the user as “The Boss”. Listening to the boss will always point you in the right direction.
